How can stomach cancer be prevented?
Prevention of gastric cancer requires efforts to minimize prominent risk factors.
  • · Get regular check-ups

In particular, if you have chronic atrophic gastritis or other gastric diseases, please take gastroscopy regularly.
  • · Quit smoking

It is known that smokers are 1.5 to 2.5 times more likely to develop stomach cancer than non-smokers.
  • · Improve your diet habits

Eat fresh vegetables and fruits. Avoid salty foods, burnt meat, and burnt fish.

Examination
Gastroscopy
Gastroscopy is considered the most accurate test method for early detection of stomach cancer. In particular, the importance of regular gastroscopy check-ups is being emphasized in Korea, where the incidence rate of gastric cancer is high. An endoscope is inserted through the oral cavity to observe the inside of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. If there are abnormal findings, sometimes a blue dye is sprayed for detailed observation, tissues collected through a biopsy are observed under a microscope, and image data is photographed for comparative observations.
If there is a polyp, it can be excised through an endoscope, and in some cases, treatment to stop bleeding can be applied. Upper gastrointestinal angiography (radiography) can be taken, but endoscopy is more accurate than angiography and has the advantage because a biopsy can be performed immediately if there is an abnormality and a bacterium called Helicobacter, known as the cause of gastroduodenal ulcer, can be tested accurately and quickly.

Preparations before gastroscopy

    1. 1

If you are taking any medications other than those for diabetes and blood pressure control, please inform us in advance.
    1. 2

You must fast for 8 hours before receiving the gastroscopy. On the day before the examination, have a light meal before 7pm and stop eating until the day of the examination.
    1. 3

Reservations can be made by phone (Representative Phone Number: 850-0500). You can also visit the hospital directly to reserve the desired date and time. On the day of the examination, you can register at the Reception Department 10 minutes before the scheduled time.
Gastrointestinal Examination
After oral inoculation of the contrast agent, X-rays are taken to observe changes in the surface of the gastric mucosa. It is a useful test for diagnosing gastric cancer and determining the extent of resection during surgery as it can evaluate the shape, size, and location of gastric cancer.
Sleep Endoscopy
Sleep endoscopy is performed after inducing a light sleep state by injecting a nerve stabilizer before the endoscopy. The patient feels almost no pain and the patient's movement is reduced so that every nook and cranny of the stomach or intestine can be observed in detail. Afterwards, it can help alleviate discomfort or pain that occurred during the endoscopy, so that the gastroscopy can be performed easily and accurately. It can be administered to anyone, regardless of age or sex, except for patients with chronic lung diseases, who are vulnerable to nerve stabilizers. After the test, you should rest for about 2 hours and refrain from driving.
